Our motto is "Unlocking the world you deserve."
Students in Prince George's County & the City of Baltimore need support and commitment from within their community. At STAR we focus on stimulating students senses of creativity while also making learning more exciting and hands on. The STAR team works together to give students the resources they need outside of their classrooms to succeed within. At STAR we also want to connect with the youth by playing a role in positively impacting their social-emotional skills.
Damali Lambert was born in Brooklyn, New York but grew up in Georgetown, Guyana. She first started working with children during her younger years, as she volunteered at the Orphanage in Guyana. Shortly after graduating college she served as the Program Assistant at the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health (AAIUH). At AAIUH she worked closely with middle and high school students on developing research based projects focused to Public Health issues in their communities. The AAIUH sparked her interest in having a more active presence in the lives of the younger generation. She then became an elementary school teacher in DC & Maryland. STAR was created because of her vision for a more engaged learning and community oriented program for students in the Prince George's County Area.
Gehnet Rose was born in Kingston, Jamaica, but raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Gehnet was an active volunteer as a peer helper for special needs students and a member and youth advisor in the nonprofit known as I-niversal Development of Rastafari (I.D.O.R). She also worked to raise funds for elder medical care in Ethiopia and for Rastafarian elders in the DMV whose aid was neglected by the Government. She attended University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in French. At UMBC she held the position of Secretary of the Board for I.D.O.R. Upon hearing of STAR’s initiatives and goals, she was moved to get as involved as possible with STAR because of her love for what the organization represents ~ a brighter future for the children of today by helping them diversify skills that they can use to build a better tomorrow for us all.

She began working with children early in high school through Child Development courses in school and volunteering at various summer camps. She attended Bowie State University and graduated May 2018 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. During her time in college, Kylie had the privilege of working at a West River Center, a faith-based summer camp, where she got to encounter hundreds of campers a week and help them grow personally and spiritually. Working at this camp reaffirmed her love for working with children. She is now a teacher in the Prince Georges County Public School System.
Kylie decided to work with STAR and impact the youth outside of her school’s immediate community. She recognizes that not every part of PG County has the same access and wants to help bridge the gaps.
